Hi Andi , i am looking forward to this race, i should be fit but put me on a downhill leg anyway. I am going to rece all the legs if anyone is interested.

Billymar

AK

Im also keen on this, but the way im running i'll end up slowing you boys down!

Are there plans for a B team?
roadrunner

There are two teams entered.  Thats 24 runners and suppoters we need!
You will sure be on one of these AK.
I will be up for running several legs of the CWR as a long Sunday run in the build up to the marathon.
Rob

Looking forward to this again. Would be more than happy to run leg 5 again and will be up for some recce's.
TessW

Andi
Could I do a leg at Calderdale?  Is it a mixed team?  I might be able to run with one of the slower men?
roadrunner

Hey up Tess,

I have told you before, you are one of the blokes!!!!! Wink

The A team needs to be totally men if we are challenging for the top three places which we should be.

The B team will be a mixed set up.  I just mentioned to Donna that she could run with you but she just left the room saying something like 'I think f...... not!!!'
TessW

Ha ha Tell Donna I've volunteered me and her for the longest leg with a massive mountain in the middle.
Simon

Hi Andi,

As Billy has mentioned, I would like to run a leg this year. I've done leg 6 twice before, although I note that it appears to have changed slightly. However, I don't mind which leg I run. Would be interested in doing some rece'ing as well.

Cheers

Simon
roadrunner

I take it Tess doesn't know the Calderdale Way?  No mountains in that area you fool!!!!!  (All the mountains are on this weekends Swansea 10k Wink )

Glad to see so many people interested in running this event.  Thats what I like to see.
hilbob

More than welcome on our mixed team Tess you could run leg one with i n other start 8,00am 9,8miles and with a good recci we could show navigator & billymar the way home. Now that is a challenge.
NAVIGATOR

Hey Bob thats fightin talk where i come from
hilbob

Calderdale Relays

We have a number of names for the mixed 'B' team for Calderdale 14 Dec 2008 if you would like to be added to the list let me now and we  can come up we an initial team selection.

Paul McNamara         Tess Walker
Gary Hamilton           Ruth Bardsley
Darren Moran            Julie Laverock
Andy Kay                  Pat Curran
Dennis Moran            Joanne Aplin
Bob Towell
Sid Sacks
Joe Bailey
Dave Hudson

The more names we have the better history tells us we will lose names to the 'A' team and injuries so if you are interested let us now.
roadrunner

See above and Simon wants a run as well.
NAVIGATOR

Lee Dunn would like to run for us.
hilbob

I thought Simon would be on the 'A' team but he is more than welcome on our mixed team.

Lee Dunn can join Salford as first claim on the fells which would allow him to run Calderdale. This is what Phil Leybourne has done.

Would he get a run on the 'A' team Andy Question

Mark Ediker says he is a lot fitter now and may be fit enough to run on the 'A' Team
hilbob

Leg 2- John Brown + Billy Burns (TBC)

Leg 3- James Kovacs + Jonny Gilby (TBC)

Leg 4- Andi Jones + Carl Hardman

Leg 5- Rob Hughes + Phil Leybourne

Leg 6- Duncan Mason +

I was going off what I have above to date.  I don't know what shape Simon is in, sorry.  Obviously if he's A team material great.  Not sure if Billy Burns is over in December as he has been the last few years.  Jonny Gilby still not been asked, will speak to him later on today at Uni Relays.  Leave one place on leg 6 with Duncan Mason.  Lee Dunn if he makes himself a member for the fells or Simon?
NAVIGATOR

i am lookink at running legs 1&2 next weekend, is anyone interested ? i would like to get out as early as possible (7:30 ?) we need to meet at the end of leg 2 and drive back to start leaving some cars behind. people not wanting to run so far could just run leg 1 or 2 this would need some careful planing . i just need to know who is going.
AK

i'll have a run out
roadrunner

Did Tess make it to the recce of the legs 1 and 2?  She was muttering on about there only being one 7.30 in her Sundays!!!!

I will try and set up a recce of legs 4 and 5 if people are interested, but be aware is a good 17 miler, but all runnable.
NAVIGATOR

No Tess just myself, AK & Bailey. not enough cars/drivers so we just ran leg 2 slow in the mist, found the route well untill last mile, just need to go back over and find the official finish, other than that it was a good run with joe having his first tast of the fells (litteraly after a fall) i am up for leg 4/5 but i am away in the lakes next weekend.
hilbob

I know this is early days and things will change before race day but we are over subscribed with men with just enough ladies for Calderdale.  This is the initial team in order to compete as a mixed team - any one who is not sure on start times, distance, pairings or would like to change please let me know.

Just worked out where i went wrong, when we took the sharp right at todmorden edge farm we should have turned right again this would have saved us a few hundred yards and would have missed the field with the bull (although this was a very fast field).

I am at Birmingham half next Sunday anyway, but i can tell you where I would prefer to be!
date&walnut

Pat & Ruth should be ok as they ran the same leg last year. Joanne & Jane should be delighted(!) to find out they get to learn a new route (leg 5 last year). As for me, does Dave own a head torch as I can't see us getting back before it's goes dark! (Marathon training means I can run further but not any faster)

I think it might be worth me trying to persuade one of the faster girls to have a run on leg 6 with me as the spare part
Huddo

Bloody Hills!!

After my last experience on the training weekend I also volunteer to be a spare part!!!

Dont worry mate. Calderdale is more like cross country nothing like the
Bloody hills you ran up/down in the Lakes
hilbob

Leg 1- Billy Martin + Phil West

Leg 2- John Brown + Billy Burns (TBC)

Leg 3- Dave Townsend + Could be Lee Dunn and Pumlani but this needs thinking about.  Simon Burton also able to run.  All three of these would need to check the route out.

Leg 4- Andi Jones + Carl Hardman

Leg 5- Rob Hughes + Phil Leybourne

Leg 6- James Kovacs + (Maybe Jonny Gilby)

Does anybody know if Billy Burns will be available to run?
Anyone know if Lee Dunn has made himself a second claim member?
I will speak with Jonny Gilby about it when he returns from holiday.
roadrunner

Anyone got contact details for Lee Dunn?  If so could you e-mail them me rather than display on a public forum!
NAVIGATOR

hi, no details but he normaly trains at bluebell so i will ask him later. if not he is going to national xc this weekend.
date&walnut

The route descriptions have now been taken off Horwich's website, but fair play to them they have been on for a while. If any one is planning a recce and needs a copy for their leg let me know and I'll email it.
roadrunner

Could you e-mail the lot across to me so I can copy them for each runner on the day?
NAVIGATOR

Has everyone got the kit for the race ( map, compass, whistle, full body cover, hat,  gloves & bum bag). They are very keen on checks.
ribbons

We have loads of compasses at school I can lend people.  This event doesn't sound very glamorous Phil I'm going off the idea!

You can still wear all your make up!!!!!
roadrunner

This might be worth runners viewing if anyone is unsure of routes.

Thanks to Horwich RMI for routes descriptions.
roadrunner

Leg 1- Billy Martin + Phil West

Leg 2- John Brown + Billy Burns (TBC)

Leg 3- Dave Townsend + James Jackson

Leg 4- Andi Jones + Carl Hardman

Leg 5- Rob Hughes + Phil Leybourne

Leg 6- James Kovacs + Pumlani (But not confirmed this with him)
AK

Just a suggestion, but if Pumlani doesnt confirm, Joe is flying at the moment, he would'nt look out of place in the first team.
Huddo

Too right!! I don't know how many pints of DIAMOND he has been drinking down the legendary BLUEBELL but he is bloody fast!!

Huddo (Bluebell Harriers)
TOWNY

Just to let you all know he will need them couple of pints up on the moors, I was over Stodley Pike at 6.30 on Sunday and it was Bad "Bloody Bad" I'm uncertain now wether to run in fell shoes or dunlop Hunters  Shocked but on a more serious note with studs on the stone corrbles are like glass.
John123

Calderdale Relays

Andi.

Can you provide me with details of the new start and finish area.   I have located the approx place on the map, but if I had the actual directions it would be of help.  Thanks.
Rob

Im planning on a recce round leg 5 this weekend if anyone fancies it, probably sunday morning.
Could link it with leg 4 or 6 if anyone needs to look at their leg and wants a long run.
ribbons

I want to run leg 4 only Rob but you probably don't want to run that slowly?   Sad  How did you get on at the Abby Dash?
NAVIGATOR

hi rob not seen you for a while hows training going?
i have aranged to go over leg 2 with AK but if we can all get out as a group  it would be better. what time are you planing on getting out?
Bone

if you wanted to link it in with leg 4 like we did last year i'l prob do it rob, give me a text let me know
roadrunner

Let the Sale lads know as well.  There are a few of them out this weekend on various legs.

Phil West has been looking for the new start and maybe he could post his findings on here for us to read.  I am away from Friday am so will not be around to come check routes out.  Hope it all goes well.
Rob

Im happy to link it with leg 4 for a long run, although i've not done leg 4 myself so we need someone who knows it.

I think as early as possible sunday morning is the best bet, meet at birch services and go in convoy. Tess dont worry about the pace, dont think anyone will be racing round.

Need to know who's interested so we can get cars sorted out.
Rob

plan for sunday morning recce looks to be:

Meet at Birch services at 7:30am, drive to end of leg 5 and leave 1 or 2 cars there, Tess and anyone else just wanting to run leg 4 to drive to leg 4/5 changeover. Drive to start of leg 4 picking Tess up on the way. Start running.

Likely line-up is me Phil W, Andy K, Joe, Tess and possibly Carl.
Anyone else interested?
NAVIGATOR

Sounds good . i will pick joe up on way (7:15). Do we still need map or does carl know leg 4 ?
Bone

i'm not gonna make it on sun, i won't be doing the relays either.
roadrunner

Jonny Gilby is replacing Carl in the relays.  We will miss Carl and hope hes back injury free soon.
roadrunner

Team as of Thursday 4th December.  Hopefully it wont change.  With this team out we have a good chance of placing well.

Leg 1- Billy Martin + Phil West

Leg 2- John Brown + Billy Burns

Leg 3- Dave Townsend + James Jackson

Leg 4- Andi Jones + Jonny Gilby

Leg 5- Rob Hughes + Phil Leybourne

Leg 6- James Kovacs + Pumlani Bangani

TOWNY

Great running lads its nice to finally show the fell running teams that Salford are the best at what ever we turn our minds too be it on the road or country or fells Laughing
AK

Tremendous effort from everyone today, well done!

Thanks to Andi and Bob for organising the majority of the team planning and selection and thanks to everyone that turned out and made it a great day!!!

Come on Salford!!
roadrunner

Excellent work today everyone.
It was good to be leading by midway knowing that we just had to keep it going and we would finally win this event.
The team spirit is coming back and we now need to build on this ready for the big XC races coming up.  Northerns and National XC needs to be a see of red!
Well done everyone.
roadrunner
